Stanhope Gardens Highgate London

Fully rebuilt top floor two bedroom split level apartment built for Mark’s young family in 2000.

The second bedroom doubled up as a home studio and the internal strip windows are each equipped with electric white-out blinds when privacy is required.

The stair is suspended through three storeys from the uppermost structural steel frame via steel rods and sits free of the containing surfaces and is simply restrained intermittently.

The combination of a hipped gable roof, an out-of-square plan and clear lacquered douglas fir rafters and roof decking – with every single joint being on display – pushed our amazing Seikh carpentry team to the limit but they were incredibly skilled and coped admirably. A real labour of love!

The slab from which the kitchen worktop and concealed services shelves were made was hand-selected by Mark from the quarry at Broughton Moor, Cumbria.
